Lots have been going on ever since U.S. President Trump executed Iranian general Qassem Soleimani 1/3/20. Most questions have been roaming around on whether if there’s going to be a World War III or not. Based on the president’s choices.
“If cooler more rational heads do not prevail, we could be drug into a war. I am glad that the latest attack by Iran, on U.S. bases did not kill Americans or American military personnel. This I believe could easily have started a war. I think both countries are controlled by leaders who are impulsive and that could quickly escalate any situation,” history teacher George Pineda said.
“While the president has some power in sending troops, Congress controls the finances and the sole power of declaring war. The House of Representatives brought charges of impeachment against Trump and are at odds with the Senate over the trial. I don't see them agreeing on much of anything right now,” history teacher Sara Rummler said.
Since people stated about having World War III, lots of people had their own thoughts and opinions on whether or not it would happen, and even what they thought about it when they first heard about it.
“I don't think that's going to be World War III. Instead, I think that if Iran were to retaliate that they would be more likely to use cyberattacks or raise the cost of oil, of which we are highly dependent,” Rummler stated.
“The concept of WWIII has been around since the Nuclear Age and Arms Race. In regards to the current conflict in Iran, my hope is that the world never sees anything close to another World War. I heard about our attack on the Iranian General shortly after it happened, as it was breaking news,” Pineda said.
But the main question and thoughts floating around us are that is there anything that we can do to prevent things from escalating any further. Or maybe even fully stop this problem happening.
“I am not sure. According to the POTUS, the strike was necessary to save American lives. If that is the situation, then the strike was warranted.
As a nation, we must protect American military personnel and American citizens. If the killing of the general was for some other reason than it might not have been the best idea, given our already heightened tension with Iran,” Pineda stated.
“In the past, countries have used diplomats and allies to deescalate a situation. I'm not sure how this situation will be resolved, but in the meantime, I'm reading the news and staying informed,” Rummler said.
