Once in your life you get a job. It should be the most exciting thing you do because it’s a first time thing.
Junior Samantha Barrera is attempting to get her first job at Waba Grill.
“I still have to wait until I'm 16 because right now I’m still 15. You told me that Waba Grill usually hires at 15 so I'm gonna try there,” Barrera said.
There are many places that hire at 15 but usually the age is 16. Kids who are 15 can only work as a custodian or customer service person because they aren’t legally old enough to work in the kitchen.
Sophomore Konye King is excited about taking over his dad’s driving business in the future.
“My dad has a driving business and when I turn 16 I’m going to take over and start to make my own money,” King said.
Sixteen is definitely the ideal age to get a job. Some people wait until later on because they have no desire to work, but it’s actually a good idea because you can then feel responsible to get up and go to work like an adult and make your own money.
Both King and Barrera agree that making their own money is essential.
“I just want to make my own money. Once I'm doing that I’m gonna be okay,” King said.
“Yeah, I agree,” Barrera added.
Most teens either take over their parents business or they just go out and find their own job. It's not always easy to find a job though. Some people have a very hard time doing it. They eventually get tired and give up, which is not the best idea but some people get very discouraged.
